I've had my iPhone since launch day in NYC but haven't had a chance to try it outside of manhattan until this weekend in Boston. I've always considered edge pretty much unuseable unless I'm using rss feeds. Now that I'm in Boston I'm flying! Why is this?? I figured NYC of all places would have great edge service...

Simple...more people using it in NYC so less of it for you. I noticed the same thing going to Chicago. It's one of the downsides of being in such a populated area with probably more people using EDGE than other places. Also keep in mind that all BBs (except VZ/Sprint) use EDGE so especially during the work week EDGE can be a dog.

BTW, this goes for EVDO on VZW too...you get faster speeds in less populated areas...in Manhattan I get very slow EVDO speeds sometimes.
