Why Is Facebook Draining My Battery?

They've used a variety of dirty tricks in the past to keep running in the background, playing silent audio, pretending to be a voip app etc.
Two options: -
- Delete it and use the site instead (or just don't use FB at all, given the level of respect they've shown)
- Be careful to always kill it from the app switcher
The Facebook App is awful for battery life. Deleting it basically doubled my battery life.
Yep delete the app and use a browser instead. It’s a pain to post links to webpages though since Apple removed the FB integration in iOS 11. I use Firefox because it also allows messages so I don’t need the Messenger app either.
Apple should really make the background refresh switch more "totalitarian", in that if it's off for an app, the app CANNOT run in the background, ever. As soon as you push the home button it gets suspended. They could rename the switch "Background execution".

It's because background app refresh is just one aspect of background execution, with the rest essentially being built into iOS itself at the system level, having been there before background app refresh was something that was offered. It's probably not likely a system level functionality like background execution would really be controllable by the end user, essentially beyond giving the ability to the user to simply close an app that they don't want to be able to run in the background, which is an ability that's there.
I really wonder what would happen if everyone just deleted their Facebook account.... It would never happen, but, I wonder....
Facebook only really exists to steal your information so they can sell it. If you must run it - force quit it afterwords. Even on my Mac Book I clear all data I can before and after I run it. Even if you don't run FB you will find FB cookies on your system

This app is basically a skin over the web versions of the services it supports. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing; I'm curious how they got the web version of Facebook messenger to work at all. That UI is definitely from the web version.
There is nothing to fix. Looks like the FB app is using same amount of battery as Safari.
From your screenshot, FB is giving 108min on screen time + 40min background time with 31% battery used. That works out to 3.48min on screen time + 1.29min background time per 1% of battery used.
Safari is giving 21min with 5% battery used. That works out to 4.2min per 1% of battery used.
That looks like similar battery usage to me.

No clue, but it's the only reason I keep Friendly - to access FB Messenger. On my phone, the web versions of FB and Twitter still drain the battery a lot. Maybe not as much as the FB and Twitter apps, but pretty close. However, the worst app for me is the FB Messenger. The battery drain can get pretty bad, so I decided to delete the Messenger app. Having the ability to access Messenger from Friendly helps a lot.
Aside from perhaps Facebook doing something in the background for that much time that might not be expected by the user.
I did two years ago. It's an amazing relieving experience that I'd suggest everyone consider.
You miss nothing, and don't deal with the anxiety of checking it every 2 minutes to see what inane politics your friends and family posted that makes you ending up despising them.
You do not need to see your family and friend's kids in different poses for years and years. Get their phone numbers, give them a call, and hang out with them.
Or people can use it similarly to phone calls as an additional medium to check once in a while and share something. Ultimately it's about how it's used, not so much about what it is or how others might use or misuse it.
I deleted mine two months ago. I don't miss it one bit. I found every time I used facebook I became angry. What's the point of using something that doesn't make you happy or contribute to quality of life?
I just explained you don’t need it as an additional medium. It is spy ware. It and it’s creators do not have your best interests in mind. It doesn’t matter how gleeful you believe the experience is when you check it.
People don't need it, but just like free email, and all kinds of other things, people can make use of it if they get something from it.
