i've an M1 Max Studio. internal storage is only 500gb, which is fine for my uses. i keep all of my videos on external drives so i don't use up all my internal storage. Last night i was importing a bunch of clips from my external drive into iMovie and when i tried to import my last clip i got a message stating i didn't have enough disk space to import anymore, even though i've 340gb available on my system drive.
when i started doing this, i was concerned as to whether iMovie would simply pull the clips from my external drive (which was what i wanted to happen), or if it would put them on the system drive, and then pull from that (not preferred for obvious reasons).
To make sure the videos that i was importing from my external drive into iMovie weren't ending up on my system drive, i'd check the available disk space after each import to make sure there was no change...and there wasn't. good. BUT... then i get this message stating i'm out of disk space? i know the movies still live on my external drive because when i eject the disk they're on, and open iMovie, there are NO video clips.what am i missing here?
