Why is iOS 10.2 Mail reluctant to sync w Sierra Mail?

Having deleted all my email in Sierra Mail, why does iOS 10.2 Mail not delete all mail. iOS Mail acts as if it is separate from Sierra Mail, as if they do not correspond w each other.

Have I turned something off in iOS to ignore mail I have deleted in Sierra?

Also, why is iOS 10.2 mail so slow to delete emails?
Why does iOS Mail seem to slowly realize I have deleted mail?

What type of mail account(s) are we talking about? Is it set up as Exchange or IMAP or POP?

My isp is Comcast cable. I use Google and Comcast addresses. I think I use IMAP.

The Mail eventually gets deleted, but it is so damn slow. iOS mail takes too long to recognize it is gone.

Are those accounts configured to push or fetch (or manual) in iOS? And by too long do you mean after you open it and get new mail the deleted mail is still there for a while (how long approximately)?

Fetch is selected for all mail accounts, not manual.

Using an iPad Air w iOS 10.2 and an iMac w Sierra macOS, I trashed all email received in Apple Mail Sierra. Quit Apple Mail. Opening iOS Mail on the iPad Air and NO email has been deleted. It's still in the inbox.

This is expexted behaviour. iCloud mail works the same. It's because iOS mail does not support IDLE like mac, only push. I put in a feature request for iOS to support IMAP IDLE when on WiFi, especially for the iPad. Nothing yet.

They just never added IMAP IDLE to iOS. MacOS mail has had it for years and still has it. Even without IDLE on iOS, if you go into iOS mail app and let it refresh it should then sync fine.

If Apple don't want to add IDLE support for battery life concerns they could at least allow the IMAPp push notification to trigger a full mailbox refresh...

Here's hoping iOS 11.

Isn't there also something to do with GMail not doing push with iOS Mail, it will only do Fetch which puts in a delay
