Every time I've used a 2.0, 2.1, or 2.2 jailbreak (iPT gen 1, iPhone, iPhone 3G) the entire device slows down. A fresh jailbreak (as in no apps installed) makes everything 10x slower. I tried restoring, then straight after restoring going to jailbreak, and everything slows down. Cydia takes 1 min. 45 sec. (Oh yes, I timed it on every device and averaged it) to start up, and another 30 sec. to refresh sources. Settings takes 20 more seconds to load than it did non-jb'd. Everything is slower. I love jb, but it's sooooo slow! Anybody else have this?

Umm, no. Something is up with yours, because I've jailbroken mine plenty of times and have suffered no speed decrease, along with many other people I know.

I'm sure if this was a widespread problem, a lot less people would jailbreak. And that definitely doesn't seem to be the case.

For some reason I had this issue with 2.1 and went back to the original firmware. When 2.2 was released I figured I would give it another shot and I have had no slowdown throughout the phone. Cydia does take a while to open but that is the only slowdown I notice.

That is quite slow, I don't think mine was ever that slow even on 2.1. Cydia does take forever (15 seconds last time I counted), but settings should take 3-5 seconds at most. I don't have any noticeable slowing on 2.2. What kind of programs are you using? Themes? Backgrounder? If it runs in the background, it will slow your phone down.

I don't have anything in the background. Like I said, I didn't run anything, just the stock phone, no apps installed.

Strange. I did the JB protocol with QucikPwn, then deleted Installer and Mobilesubstrate. My device certainly doesn't seem as slow as you describe (>20 sec to load Settings?!). The only thing that is slow is Cydia itself--it takes forever to load up...but that is normal.

If you have Winterboard or mobilesubstrate listed in cydia, uninstall them and reboot your phone.
