I received an email today from MacPhun. It was a promotional email for 20% off of "CleanMyMac". CleanMyMac is known to be unnecessary software and I recall Apple recommends that you do not use it.

Has anyone else received this promotional email? Is it legit? Was MacPhun hacked? If its legit, why would MacPhun do something like this? Are the two companies related somehow?

This reflects poorly on MacPhun. I will remove myself from all MacPhun emails. I was holding out for the DAM feature in Luminar. How I think I will likely choose to take a pass on their software.

I think they ran a promo previously with Digital River who also do promos on CleanMyMac.

I cannot comment on CleanMyMac specifically but in the past, these types of tools have been more hassle than a benefit.

Yes, I got the same. This was a really bad decision by MacPhun, and it completely undermined their reputation in my eyes. They have a business of their own, they shouldn't be spamming for others.

I was considering Aurora HDR for a project I'm doing, but will probably take a pass on it. I'll work with a company that respects its customers.

I agree that companies should not spam for other companies. As for respecting customers - do Apple respect their customers?

Macphun probably had "share with..." caveat somewhere in the fine print when we gave them our emails. Obviously no one at Macphun cares about who they partner with, given that spam.

And I get spam about each of their products and upgrades they want me to buy more frequently than most applications. But then again, they seem to kinda churn their apps to generate upgrade fees. The more they nag the more I'm considering moving on. They've orphaned the Creative Kit apps, and the functionality of Aurora and Luminosity overlap with each other, and with CK. That's fine, but add up the upgrade fees and you could have Photoshop for a year.

Agreed. I immediately hit the kill switch on all emails from MacPhun.
