Why is my iPhone 3g using EDGE?!!!

ok so i just got my iphone 3g today, and have been using the WiFi inside my house since that is the fastest. Now i decided to shut off WiFi and see how fast the 3g is. So i turn off WiFi and now im on EDGE

WHY AM I ON EGDE!!!! i am on the south side of Chicago. 3g Service is dark blue here! Now i keep on switching back and forth between 3g and EDGE.

What gives?

You might be getting poor 3G reception from inside your house. Try near a window or outside. You can just ignore me if you're outside.

your house could just be in a wierd spot, or may just be because you are inside your house...I am not really sure but could just be a wierd place for 3G signal.

Considering your home has WiFi, I really wouldn't sweat it. It's 3G coverage away from your house that you should be concerned about.
