Both my friend and I recently got white Macbooks, 2.16ghz. Except I got mine at my university's store and she got hers at Bestbuy. When I saw hers I noticed some differences.. and no I'm not being picky, three other friends agree with me:

1. The edge of my Macbook is sharper, so when I type I constantly scratch my wrists.. especially since I'm a girl with small hands, haha. Her edge isn't as sharp.

2. The plastic on her Macbook is smoother.. like the area where the keyboard is and the touchpad. It doesn't really matter I guess, but I guess it's worth mentioning.. but it is noticable. Oh and it seems like mine gets dirtier more easily.

3. When I wake my Macbook up from sleep or turn it on.. the CD drive makes a kind of loud scratchy noise. My friend's isn't as loud as mine and it's shorter and more quiet. Normally I wouldn't mind but when I wake it up in lectures it's kind of annoying.

Overall I reaaallly like my Macbook and I've been wanting a Mac for a while! But.. I dunno it seems like my friend's is newer or something since she got it at Bestbuy instead of a local school store.. it feels like I'm not getting what I should be from all the money spent. Oh and I'm not really crazy about the scratched wrists.

So I was considering returning it and waiting for that new "Slimbook." If that fails, I was thinking of asking if I could exchange it and hope for the best.

But I dunno.. what do you guys think I should do? Any input would be appreciated, even if you think I'm crazy, heh.

1. If it does scratch your wrists, and it is annoying take it back or try and smoothen it out.

2. Same as 1.

3. This is the combo drive checking if there is a disc waiting to be inserted. The noise varies on laptop to laptop but it is perfectly normal.

#1 is a known issue, and while it doesn't bother some, take it back if you find it annoying.

#2 is also a known issue, where the plastic was very easy to get dirty since it kind of soaked up acid and whatnot. The 'smoother' surface of your friend's MacBook is the way the newer ones feel.

#3 What Kilamite said.

I'd go hunting for a replacement, or better, a refund so you can go buy it at an Apple retail store (if there's one near you). They'll have newer stock — it's possible your university store has some of the older, problematic models. You can still get a big-ass discount from an Apple store with the appropriate paperwork!

Thanks for the advice! .. unfortunately I'm in Canada where we don't have Apple stores:(
However, sometimes I go across the border for 3 hours and I can reach one, but it's kind of a hassle. Btw, what do you mean by "appropriate paper work"?

By paperwork I mean some sort of solid proof of your academic status. Student ID, enrollment letter, something like that (you should check before you travel, obviously! haha). I think you can get even more of a discount via this link, possibly. The topcase (everything on top, so the keyboard, trackpad and the surroundings) can be replaced, and I can't remember exactly whether this'll fix the sharp edges but it probably will. The optical drive might be more difficult. Unless it's buzzing like a lunatic or not working they'll probably tell you to live with it.

Ahh, I know there are ones in Toronto but I'm all the way on the other side of Canada in Vancouver:mad: The closest Apple store is in the US at Alderwood mall in Lynnwood, WA.

I go to Simon Fraser Uni, btw.
