Why is the 8-core less desirable over 6 core?

I've been looking into getting a Mac Pro 5,1 and it seems that the 6 core is more desired than the 8 core. I am always looking on Apple's refurb store and ebay and it seems the 8 cores never have any bids and are relisted. What makes the 5,1 8 core less wanted than the 6 core?

In the six-core model, the position of the nuclei in a single crystal in such a way communications between the cores more quickly than in the two crystals of the four cores. 3333 megahertz clock rate is preferable for many applications that are poorly optimized for more cores with lower megahertz.

More applications can take advantage of the faster clock offered on the 6c processor than the slower clock on the 8c processor. That said, you have an application that is very much multithreaded, you may see an advantage with more cores. Unfortunately even now, most applications are still only optimized for a few cores. Now of course if you compared a 8c or 12c with the same clock as the 6 core, it would be faster (and more expensive) for the latter.
