I'm rather confused.

Looking at the apple store right now. White 2.0ghz MB is $1299 and the black one is $1499. Only difference is the hard drive size. Bumping the white one to the 80gb drive takes it to $1349.

$150 more for black????

... and the instant recognition that goes with it.

The white one could be mistaken for the 14-inch iBook, now you wouldn't want that would you!

(I can't get over how much longer the MacBook is to the 12-inch iBook)

Looking at the Canadian store you can upgrade to 100Gb HD and still save some money over the Black.

It's more expensive because apple knows people will buy some ugly as$ matt finish laptop to be cool and have something different from the rest of the apple line (seriously though the black model looks like any laptop from the late 80s to early 90s). Seriously the white model owns the black one. I've seen both models in real life and white is the way to go. The black plastic looks way too cheap for me.

Bullsh&t.

No one who has really seen the black one would say it looks like a laptop from the 80's.

Sorry, but either you weren't paying attention or your are lying about seeing the new Macbooks.

Maybe the black casing costs more to produce than the white, ever considered that?

I don't personally believe that, but its a possibility.

Opinions are like a**holes, everybody has one.

(Now if I only could remember which movie I got that from.):D

Honestly, the black ones look too much like regular pcs for me.

why $150 more?

because people will pay it. heck, I might even pay it. Going to see them at the apple store now.

moreover, I really don't understand why this is such an issue. If apple had not released the black one at all, and only had the white one at $1299, nobody would be bitching. So if you don't like the black, just imagine that there is no black model, be happy with the white model, and let those who like it enjoy it.

Well, if you have a "limited edition" of anything, it will cost more per unit. I doubt there's a $150 cost difference, but I imagine that it does cost apple more to have two colors. Inventory, different production lines for the cases, component inventory, etc. If they made all of them black then I bet the costs would be the same as making all of them white. But I suspect Apple is taking the white version as standard, and charging a premium for the black version to cover all of the costs of adding a second color. In a way that's bogus because they could make black standard, charge a premium for white, and end up in exactly the same place.
