So I have facebook's background refresh set to OFF, yet when I check my battery usage it shows Facebook has used 19% - 25mins on screen - 45 min background....

why is it still running in the background? what have i missed turning off here?

I was sick of the Facebook app draining my battery that I went to Friendly app. Not that great visually, but gets the job done!

I've been using the Friendly App as well. There's a free version and a paid version that blocks all the ads.

I have the same problem with Facebook always at the top of my usage stats as the biggest drain on the battery. What is the friendly app?

i have uninstalled Facebook and just use Facebook through safari, put the shortcut on the home page and it doesn't look any different. Facebook app should not be allowed to drain battery like it does.

I just looked and after a day of carefully closing the app each time after opening it and occasionally using safari, it still says 2 hrs screen time and 10 hours background. Using safari is a terrible experience compared to the app. May look into this friendly thing.

I'm diligent about force closing it and it still does this on my phone too -- or rather it did. And let's not get into the cache size that builds up over time in "documents and data." Basically, the app is a hog. Your best bet is to delete the app and use safari or paper.

Deleting FB now. Rarely us it, and seeing too many complaints about it.

Are there other good options? Don't have to have one, but interested.

There are some that have been mentioned in this thread:
