When I choose glossy (under edu discount) the price drops about $150. any ideas why? Are the glossy screens NOT LED-based? Or perhaps Glossy are cheaper to make??

any ideas? I want glossy, but I don't want it instead of the longer battery life brighter screen you get with LED.

thanks

It only appears that way on the order page. When you decide to checkout, it will revert to the listed price (1,799$ or 2,299$ for the 15" MBPs).

I am pretty sure the glossy displays use the LED backlight as the regular matte screens. Someone correct me if i am wrong.

You are correct. Thanks

I mentioned this forum topic to a really good and knowledgeable employee at the apple store this morning and he was pretty shocked. Said they had LEDs as well and that there definitely was no price difference on the retail level.
