if there's anything i like about Apple designs it's the aluminum slik design.i guess it's because most TVs nowadays are black and they wanted it to look good with that?

either ways i'll get it..

I think an aluminum/metal case is a more important design element when you have to worry about dissipating heat. Macbooks heat up, as did the old Apple TV, so you had to have aluminum as a heat sink. Since the new Apple TV consumes a fraction of the power of the old one and produces very little heat, it's not so important anymore, so you can consider using a cheaper material like plastic.

Personally, I don't really care. I do think a winning strategy for a set top box is to make it as inexpensive as possible, I don't think the black looks bad (it's the same color as my iPhone) and the devices that connect to my TV are hidden away on a rack anyway, so it's just as well.
 
So it doesn't stick out next to your TV and passes the wife test.
