Ok, please allow me to rant a little bit here to get this off my chest.

The last several devices I’ve purchased from Apple from phones to iPad Pro’s to Mac’s, have all been in Space Gray, my last being the M1 MBA. About a week or two after having my MBA, I decided that I had made a mistake ordering the Space Gray, and that I really would have preferred the classic Silver color. At that point, I wasn’t going to take the computer back and just told myself that the next device I purchase from Apple would be in classic silver.

Jump forward to the Mini 6 launch, which I had been eagerly anticipating and was always going to be a day 1 pre-order, and you see where this is going, they don’t offer it in classic silver and seemingly replace it with Starlight, which does not resonate with me AT ALL.

I wound up ordering yet another Space Gray device, which isn’t the worst thing in the world, but man I was really looking forward to getting back to that classic silver aluminum only be met with Starlight (guh!).

If you took the time to read this, thanks for humoring me, and have a great day!

If that ain’t me, except it was a slow realization over the course of a couple months. I would’ve returned it if it was during the return window, and I almost convinced myself to sell and rebuy in silver until I realized how absurd that is ?.

Of course, I’m not unhappy with there finally being a purple option but all the other colors are hella disappointing, especially starlight which is just a weak ass gold and somehow has the worst shade compared to the watch and iphone shades.

If both silver and purple were options, it would’ve been a little harder for me to choose, but I think I would’ve bought silver in the end. Imo, basic colors like silver and space gray should never be removed.

Ipads that aren’t the base ipad should always come with standard rainbow color options (matching the M1 imacs) and maybe one exclusive color per refresh.

Probably the most obvious answer is money. I'm sure Apple believes they can sell more Starlights than Silvers. I don't think there's any other rational answer than that.
