I've started the task of updating a G4 Power Mac, but it doesn't seem to like the white Pro mouse I have. Anyone know why?

it clicks "done" when booting up (as it wasn't shut down properly), but then doesn't click on anything but will move about?

I wasn't aware there was a white 'Pro' mouse.

What happens when you switch it around to all the different USB ports?

Good point- it's just an "apple mouse," not a pro one.

Well, here's the thing. I have two PMG4s and am currently playing with the 350Mhz Yikes! one. The mouse is now working, it just takes a while to kick in. However, the newer, Gigabit ethernet 400Mhz Sawtooth doesn't accept it, on any USB socket, no matter how long I wait?

You should define what "doesn't accept" means. Just because nothing happens when the mouse in plugged in, doesn't mean it's not being seen. Look in the Apple System Profiler and see if it's showing up. I had a scanner that would show up in ASP, but never work. It was some driver conflict. If it doesn't show up, I'd say the mouse was on the verge of failing and it will soon not work on either, or the connector is woggy.

Yeah, have to believe it is the mouse failing and not the computer. Other USB devices (like the keyboard) work fine I assume?

Nope, it's not the mouse. I brought it back from work where I've been using it without problem. Just swapped over the hard drives from the Yikes (which was working with the mouse) to the Sawtooth (with which I can move the pointer around but it won't click) and after a little while it' kicked in! Must have been an HDD problem.

Damn - this isn't what you want to see after finally getting it working!

Kinda OT, but Apple did make a white pro mouse, then just called it a mouse, we have them at school - says pro mouse on the bottom. :)

And how big is that hd? should be a simple, inexpensive fix! :)

EDIT: I see it's a 10GB - your not loosing that much, just buy a 40GB or something.

Got my eye on an 80GB one right now. ;)
