Hey everyone. Been reading these forums for a while now, and bit the bullet about two days ago. I decided to order a 12 inch 1.5 GHz Powerbook for $1099 on the Apple Site, which I think is a pretty good deal. I am going to use this until a Mac laptop comes out that will be perfect (13 inch macbook pro with Merom) and just to get acquainted with Apple.

A few questions

-I ordered the refurb Sunday, and its expected delivery date is March 2nd! I really wanted it sooner, but why is this so long? Do they sell the computers before they refurb them or something?

-Since 10.4.5 came out, when I boot up the PB and get it on the net, will it do a free upgrade and download automatically?

-Do you all think that the .mac membership is worth it? Are there any other alternatives?

-I need a 1 GB stick of RAM for the Powerbook and I want to get a good stick for a good price. Can anyone link me?

Thanks everyone.

In my opinion .mac is a waste of money. Take a look at the features it offers on the Apple website and decide if you can/will take advantage of them. I had it for a year and almost never used it, but your needs may be different.

Wow! $200 for 1GB RAM? That sure seems like a lot of money. I think I will go to my local Frys electronics, they might have it for less.

Also, I just bought Office 2004 Student and Teacher edition, and I was wondering how it is installed using "drag and drop". I am a PC person, and I have no idea what the best way to install it is...

Any other opinions on .mac? I don't know whether I can be on a PC and make new word documents and have it go to .mac which will be synced with my Powerbook?

Is that possible?

Wow that does seem high. They were the cheapest place when I was looking for my Ibook. Sorry about that.
