Why my apple TV buffer so much and...?

I just bought an apple tv 2, jailbroke it and also installed XMBC along with the latest nightlybuild.

After hooking it up, can you tell me why would it still buffer too much?
I have about 20MBS internet cable and currently running on wireless which is still giving about 10 plus MBS?

Also,
What else can you do with it? Is there a working list of live tv and channels I can install through add on?

I see most of the movies on icefilms are from Megaupload and some of them wait about 59 sec and do nothing.

Can someone tell me there experience? What do u like about it? I also have home sharing in it so listining to itunes from it is kool but nothing so special. I need to know if someone can really give me a great tip

Try converting your media through Handbrake on the ATV2 setting and restore the ATV2 san jailbreak. See if the problem goes away.

Ya, the wireless is probably letting you down. Try connecting with an ethernet cable and see if that helps. Also, you are accessing 720p movies and not 1080p, right? The ATV 2 doesn't really support 1080p movies, sry.

That's not entirely true. There are quite a few HD movies that are working just fine. My guess is that some of them are coded in XviD, which ATV2 can't handle in 720p, and that others are coded in h264, which ATV2 handles perfectly.

I've watched more HD content on Icefilms than I've had to watch DVDRIP because of the HD content being jerky.

plex -- relies on server side(computer) to do hard work

air video -- relies on server side(computer) to do hard work

atv 2 -- 720 at best (and not always reliable)

Time Machine?

Check to see if your problems occur when a computer on your network is using Time Machine to backup. I've found this to be root cause of buffering issues. That is, everything is working fine. Then a computer on the network starts a time machine backup (and hogging bandwith.) Then, I get buffering messages on the Apple TV.

Is that actual speed or the maximum from the spec sheet? Keep in mind that many variables can affect actual throughput on WiFi. I'd consider starting there as WiFi connectivity is your most likely culprit.

High bitrate can make ATV's playback choppy. It's better on the 2 than the 1, but it's notable that the choppy playback is on movies with "busier" frames.

What do you count as high bitrate? You're very welcome to try it out yourself. I have yet to try a single 720p XviD that play well, I've been down to around 1 800 Kb/s in average bitrate, but every single x264 rip I've ever tried has played perfectly. The one with the highest bitrate that I'm aware of was at just under 6 000 Kb/s.

Just go to any torrent site and go crazy amongst the samples if you want. I did, and this was the only common denominator I found amongst which clips played well and which didn't.

As I said before, the ATV2 doesn't play well with high res XviD. This is a well known fact.

Why are you talking about ATV when the thread is about ATV2? There is a huge difference between the two.

But since you said even the ATV2 had problems earlier... What bitrates are you talking about where the ATV2 doesn't handle your 720p rips?

I just watched a one minute clip from the landing on the beach in Saving Private Ryan in 1080p (downscaled to 720p, of course), average bitrate for this one single minute: 13,3 Mb/s. It played flawlessly, on wifi at that...

Don't take this the wrong way. But you see, when you claim the ATV2 have problems with high bitrate in a discussion about the 720p rips on Icefilms that lag all the way through (they either lag straight away or not at all), where the bitrate will most likely never reach 13,3 Mb/s in any scene let alone in the opening credits, I get curious and want to know more. And if you feel I'm being aggressive, it's only because of the language barrier, it's not my intention.
