My apologies if this has been discussed, but I haven't come across any threads on this.

I'm curious why Apple chose not to have any icons display in the status bar showing new notifications. There's plenty of space up there, and it seems it would be nice that instead of the drop down notification simply disappearing, there should be a "new mail", "new message", etc icon displayed until you view it in the Notification Center.

Thoughts?

seems reasonable.

I hated the big blue box popping up interrupting whatever it was I was doing on my phone, but it was convenient to glance at my phone while it was on the dock and see if I had received a text or other notification.

I think it's just a matter of time before we get this. Unless it was a deliberate design decision. Maybe Apple just wants to keep that status bar as clean as possible. Less is more. I am not crazy about how you access the notification center, it's neat, but still doesn't feel 100% natural yet. Give it some time though and it may become second nature.

of course, i have no idea. it's useful though, when i had lockinfo installed it was good to see the twitter logo or email etc. at the top.

There was a thread on it a few days ago.

Most people seem to think the status bar would get to crowded, I on the other hand don't necessarily believe that as long as there is only one icon dedicated for the NC.

I suggested a simple ! icon, other have said a number which indicated how many unread notifications you have.

I would love to see an icon for the NC in the next update.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

It'd be nice! Hate when people say " no I don't want it" when there could be on/off toggles on features like this.

Waiting for a jailbreak to install lockinfo to get my icons back. I'm sure apple is holding off until iOS6 to implement this feature so they can claim they've made notifications even better next year.
