On my iMac 2011, I can get DD5.1 from DVDs etc. through an optical cable to my receiver, so why no multi-channel sound in Games?

I too would like to know this, as I have bose companion 5 and it can utilize the multichannel from games.

Windows has support for analog surround out of a soundcard. This is used by games to support surround. Mac OS only supports the pass-through of encoded digital surround streams via the digital outputs and there has never been a game that utilises this method as it requires an encoding of the audio stream that might cause performance issues.
