I mean you cannot even chose if you like to watch a video in HD or the resolution in general.

This is really annoying as there are a lot of embedded videos e.g. on MacRumors and if you wanna watch them in HD, you need to go to YouTube...

Imbedded videos play in HD. The only thing I've noticed is that if a video has a 60fps option the Safari video player doesn't play that and only will play the 30fps option.

Does anyone think it's time they ditched it for embedded videos in Safari unless you choose to play it full screen? Just play it in the embedded window like iPad Safari with full screen button, or how most apps like FB and Twitter do these days. We have bigger screens now, and besides, embedded windows often take up most of the portrait width anyway- opening it in the player in portrait doesn't improve the viewing experience.

If they don't ditch it, they really need to introduce a better way to dismiss it rather than forcing you to reach for that Done button. I'm so used to dismissing with a finger swipe in other apps.

I would love more effort be put into stuff like this. So many of the ergonomic frustrations with larger screened devices could be improved by better UI choices.

There is a lot of UI that is stuck awkwardly at the top of screens as a carry over from a time when 3.5" was a considered a "large" screen for a mobile device.

Likewise gestures like pull to refresh and swipe to navigate are great for one handed use but get added at a glacial pace.
