They have been known to result in freaky, paranormal photographs of weird-looking dead girls who haunt you! AHHHHHH! (I mean, I understand product placement, but why you'd want it for this movie is beyond me.)

I hear you don't get that problem if you use something other than the kit lens.
Pentax SLRs (very pre-digital) were very prominent in American Gangster -- the cops used them.
Of course, if The Wire is accurate, the Baltimore PD uses Nikons.

Let's not forget about those detectives at CSI Miami... that blonde forensic investigator seems to handle a Nikon like a pro...
According to tv all cops and feds use Nikon. The paparazzi use Canon... and wildlife photograpers.
I've only recently begun to experience the paranormal through my 50 mm, let me tell you it isn't a good experience. If I'd known that Pentax's were so prone to "ghosting" when I bought mine I'd have taken another route.
