Why nothing about ATV?

As we've been saying all along, it's all about iPods, iPods, and (oh yeah, did I already mention it?) iPods.
Actually, this was a music and video event, both of which are supported by both the ipods and the aTV.
With all the announcements I'm not surprised they just stuck with iPods, but I'm disappointed nothing new for aTV yet. Hopefully soon.
WiFi store will likely soon follow for AppleTV.
Think about this too... remember the rentals rumor? Perfect way to do it. You pay a subscription and you get to download (or for a lesser price stream?) movies and tv shows from the WiFi store. Similar to Netflix you can pay per month and depending on how much you pay you get so many hours. Just a thought.

agreed. they don't want to do too much at once, and this event's focus was iPods. they'll get around to the Apple TV, its a niche and hobby thing for them right now, remember?

I loved today's event and thought Apple made some AWESOME offerings. But whoever is saying "this was an iPod event, blah blah, blah" well to them I say HELLOOOOOO the iPod uses iTunes JUST LIKE THE APPLE TV uses iTunes! There's no reason why they shouldn't have made an update available for the Apple TV along with iPods and the iPhone to support the new WiFi store. Hopefully they release an update fairly soon. I really see no excuse otherwise unless they truly are gonna drop the Apple TV, which I hope they don't. I love mine!
TV is NOT an iPod. The TV is newer than the old iPods, which needed an update.I'm waiting for an update as well.
I'd imagine in the fall when the WiFi Music store turns into simply the WiFi Store and add videos, and movie rentals!!!
Who cares? They "updated" the iPhone too but its newer than the Apple TV! So there!
Point is - iTunes is seeing updates for all the hardware that uses it. This should have included the Apple TV in my opinion.Then again, you might have something with the movie rental and video purchasing thing - maybe they want to make a special splash about that separately. One can hope.

Apple loves to work the media.
June/July/August = iPhone
September = iPods
October = Leopard
Maybe they can squeeze AppleTV into Nov or Dec?
I'm thinking there'll be something in October. With Leopard should come support for Blue-Ray, and that will put Apple in the HD business. Perhaps at that time we'll start seeing HD content showing up on iTMS? One can only hope, but there's still the issue of file size. I think the 802.11n has gone a long way for allowing 720 files to be downloaded, but it'll probably still take 4 or 5 hours for a 2 hour movie.

TV this past weekend and it smokes the Hauppauge Media MVP I had. I too was hoping for some news on the TV.So Leopard will have support for BD DVD? What type of support?
The developer copies of Leopard's Movie Player.app (which is replacing DVD Player.app) have preferences for both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. Apple's also a member of the Blu-Ray Group (or what ever it's called). Of course, we won't know for certain until Leopard is released. Hold your breath!

AFAIK, it's the studios that are making this a slow process. I'm pretty sure Apple would gladly love to sell you guys movies if they could.When will the UK get film access

Is it the studios?? All the big names WB - FOX - PARAMOUNT etc all make the same movies for the world to watch, not just the US - must be European law I expect,
1) if you check apple's financials, it says iphone AND ATV are both booked over a period of 2 years. for iphone this $$ is booked due to the subscription with ATT. for ATV, right now there is only hardware, but just the decision on how to book it in their financials tells us something is coming. accountants don't go to the bathroom w/o a long term plan.
2) i would have loved some ATV news, but sept 5 was about ipods. ATV rentals or more video would completely overshadow it the new ipods.
3) 7.4 Itunes allows ringtones....i'm tired of the +.1 upgrades. but, seeing as how the new features are getting scarcer and scarcer on them, perhaps it means 8.0 is not long off. and with it all the features/rentals/etc that we have been hoping for for our ATV's.
4) all these networks allow downloads, but everyone is missing one key feature, delivery to our tv's. the tech savvy folks can easily download and watch on their laptops, but for the masses (parents/grandparents/etc) to buy all this content it has to be made easy for them to watch on the one screen they always use, their tv's. ATV is that delivery mechanism, and aside from the tivo/unbox hack and regular CATV VOD, there's not much else there.

Jobs said at the iMac intro in an interview that ATV news is coming. I don't think they'll drop it. It's selling. It's in a lot of retail outlets, even freaking Sam's Club.
It has sort of languished and Jobs admitted that. But remember they pushed the new OS X from June to October to get iPhone out the door. And then they had this massive overhaul and total product realignment for the iPhode line -- meaning of course iPod and iPhone -- which includes two OS X devices and revamped non-OS X iPods. They did add YouTube as soon as they got YT to start converting videos to MP4 for the iPhone, so they are adding stuff in as appropriate. And the fact is my Apple TV just kind of does its thing and does it well. A WiFi Music Store, or even special version that allows music and video, would be cool, as my wife and I would definitely sit on the sofa, audition track samples over the good hi-fi system and then spend ridiculous sums of money on albums and singles. But unlike iPods, ATV doesn't yet reverse sync, so they'll have to put that in, etc.
Some ease-of-use interface enhancements for large collections, allowing a large external USB2 hard drive to be connected to the USB port and shared across a home network via Bonjour, like with the new Airport Basestation, would be neat -- and useful for when Time Machine comes out in the next OS X -- but like I said, it does its thing, does it well, doesn't need much in the way of maintenance or updates. To me it's not even a tiny little flat box, it's just a little white remote; it's that transparent.
But I'd say fear not. They're doing or planning stuff for it; it's just the media device and services group has been a wee bit busy lately and it's not like I can think of a single thing on my ATV that needs to be actually fixed.
wouldn't be funny if the ATV announcement was that apple was buying tivo. NBC distribution through unbox through tivo might have a slight problem there...
if you remember, two years ago or was it three, nano was announced, then a week or so later, ipod video was announced. mr jobs likes to let all his kids have as much spotlight as they deserve. and he also likes to tell a good story all year long. i don't think we've seen the movie credits roll just yet for 2007.

it'd be nice to buy a TV show from my tv, but then again I'm a lazy SOB. You know how much effort it took me to get up to get my computer...wow! LOTS!
