iPod Why Pre-order???

Am I the only one here that thinks it is ridiculous to pre-order a DIGITAL DOWNLOAD?!? I noticed this when I saw the new James Bond movie Quantum of Solace with a pre-order button beneath it. I mean common, is there any OTHER way they can think of with to get us to part with our hard-earned dollars sooner...this is like selling back to school clothes in July, only you don't actually GET anything at the time of purchase with this gimmick. Is there any intrinsic value to this that I am just missing out on, or is it as stupid as it seems?

(btw...i posted this on apples support forums, and i got an email shortly after saying it was deleted for some bullsh*t reason...apparently they don't want anyone to question their wisdom...)

There is one movie that is on pre-order now that is offering a bonus download of extras that won't be offered by just buying the movie when it is for sale.

Other than getting extras if they are offered, there is no reason to pre-order that I can think of.

For music such as U2's lastest, they offered an extra song when you pre-ordered the album.

Maybe the convenience of it being automatically downloaded the instant it's available? Not a selling point for me, but that's all I can think of right now.

You don't get charged until you download it, and it doesn't automatically download. You get an email telling you it's ready to download, then you have to go into iTunes and download it yourself. At least that's how music works, not sure about movies.

Never pre-ordered a movie on iTunes (hell, never bought a movie on iTunes), but I pre-order music. Generally with music they'll give you extra tracks that are pre-order only. 2 of the 3 albums I pre-ordered were also available for me to download the day before the release date (so the Monday instead of Tuesday).
