Your mind will not handle what Jailbreak can do for you.
1) Because you need to ask some random folks if you should JB. You don't even know what you want?
2) Because the 'proper steps' are everywhere on the internet. If you don't even bother to read/search and understand it then you are not ready. You will come back asking for help because you messed up.

Please carry out some homework by doing this and the knowledge your seeking is their for you to digest.
When your learning on how to jail-break and what tweaks are available ,also learn about what to do if you come across a glitch.
I'm not trying to be unhelpful here but instead I'm trying to point you in the right direction so that you can enjoy what jail-breaking does for your idevice.
WHY?
Some examples:
Add more icons to your Dock and Springboard
Add the current date and available memory to your status bar
Add 1-click access to system settings right from your notification center or a drop-down menu.
Allow your phone to rotate your icons in landscape view, like you can on the iPads.

Now you're ready. You should jailbreak your phone for SBsettings alone, then there are other nice things too.

Does this JB also unlock your phone, making it accessible to other carriers?
ATT has not been agreeable to unlocking my phone. I dont want to switch carriers.

I think you might be confused on what the jailbreak does.
The Jailbreak is just code that adds and app to your device. This app (Cydia) is a non-Apple App store. Where you can go to install apps or other tweaks. It doesn't hurt to give it a try, if you don't like it, just restore with iTunes and it's gone.
I like your screen name.
JB and add, biteSMS, SBSettings (or NCSetting), InfiniDock and FolderEnhancer.
Play around with those for a week or so and you will be hooked.
Definitely hoping to give it a go. This has been my first iPhone (as the iPhone 5.)
Please don't start a new thread about why your phone won't boot right after you douche it up. There are plenty of other threads about it with help and solutions.
