Why sync Apps in iTunes?

My iTunes keeps downloading the latest app updates for my iPhone and iPad, however since they both backup via iCloud, i really don't understand the point. It seems like all the Apps are wasting space on my Mac's hard drive, and downloading all the updates onto my Mac is entirely pointless.

Am I missing something?

If you use wifi sync and your mac like mine is always on then you'll save 3G data by allowing your mac to download the updates and sync them over.

I agree that its a lot of wasted space to have all these apps archived on your Mac but we've got 4 active iOS devices in the family so a single download beats 4 individual ones.

This. Just because Apple has nicely agreed to let us download from the cloud when we need to that doesn't mean they want us to download from the cloud every single time we want to.

I may take an app on and off my phone or decide to put it on my iPad later or my wife's phone. Just because Apple lets me hit their servers when I'm away from home that doesn't mean they want me bothering them every single time I do one of these things in my own home.

So you and your wife have the same iTunes account? I can see the benefits, but my wife has a different account which somewhat negates the benefit.
