Not sure I understand the reasoning behind launching Panther @ 8pm on a Friday.

I want to get my hands on it asap. If I pre-order from the Apple Store (UK), will it be delivered on the Friday morning, or will I have to wait until the next week.

Don't think any of the resellers near me are hosting launch events (I'm in Liverpool and my closest are Manchester and Warrington), and I doubt they would sell to me @ £70 for the education price anyway.

Even over here in Holland there is the 8pm (CET) kick-off!
One major reseller over is here is open Friday night.

I assume New Zealand will have their copies first ????

From what I've been reading, it that the Disk will be delivered in the late afternoot/ early evening on the 24th. The reason for the Friday evening launch is two fold. 1) They are trying to reduce the early releases, caused by a saturday launce... I recieved Jaguar on Thursday, when it was to be released on Saturday. 2) To be late enough for people to come from work, and still be on the 24th, 2 years 7 months from the original Launch.

I'm guessing it's more about the media event. I'm sure they want to get people in the apple stores, not really rewarding people who buy online. (Online purchases are usually made only after much price hunting, and never impulse buys)

Get users in the stroes... to watch the presentations and mill around waiting waiting waiting for 8pm to make thier purchase. They might end up walking out with something extra.
