The Air makes it look even worse at $1249
  • Apple M1 chip with 8‑core CPU, 8‑core GPU, and 16‑core Neural Engine
  • 8GB unified memory
  • 512GB SSD storage¹
  • Retina display with True Tone
  • Magic Keyboard
  • Touch ID
  • Force Touch trackpad
  • Two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports

More storage, better screen, better trackpad, better battery life, not windows.

What do u guys think?

I was actually thinking this very thing after seeing the M1 benchmarks. I actually considered the new 9310 XPS because I bought into the hype around tiger lake's increased iGPU performance.... Needless to say after reviews came out and that gpu performance was still abysmal (not at all matching what that early look youtubers were given) I quickly abandoned that idea.

Thank you! This is a comparison that makes sense, same price point, similar specs, same premium build. This is the point Apple was trying to make that the M1 computers are best in class. Of course, there are better laptops out there but in this tier, nothing compares to it.

When making your comparison, don't forget that you get two added bonuses with Dell laptops that Macs lack.

First, you get all of those free programs. And who doesn't like free programs!?...well, free for 30 days that is. Sometimes they even offer you discounts! Heck, even if they are the most useless programs ever, they make me want to whip out my credit card and BUY BUY BUY baby! Even better when they have popups to remind me to buy as it saves me even more time. When I buy a new computer with a 1 TB hard drive, I want at least 3/4 of it filled with trial software.

Second, you have technical support and customer service that often feels like using commercial vice grip pliers on your genitals. And who doesn't like a bit of pain now and then? It lets you know you are alive!

After all those years of Apple being humiliated in reviews and top computers list, I think we'll see them make a big return and take back the crown. A hot take, but still highly possible!

I think not everyone needs the performance what the M1 MacBook Air provides.

On my ultrabook, I need a mail application, a web browser, a spreadsheet application and the ability to run Quicken for Windows. Video playback is nice but not a dealbreaker. So is image editing since I have the latter two features on my geriatric five-year old Retina iPad mini and my current iPhone.

Battery life is not an issue, I typically only use notebook computers for 2-3 hours per sitting a few times a week.

Yes, the M1 MacBook Air looks like a very capable system better than the MacBook Air 2019 that I once owned. However I can a Windows ultrabook for $700 that does everything that a $1200 MacBook Air.

Well the Dell XPS has those pretty bezels going for it :) . I wish windows laptops would also adopt the QHD resolution, 1080p on such a large screen doesn't cut it and apparently a 4k Screen eats battery like there is no tomorrow, it's a good compromise, also I'm not a fan of the carbon fiber build, I think an all aluminum you would look nicer.

I just picked up 6 core Lenovo on 17 inch, and will replace it with 8core the same laptop once it is back in stock.
As far as i have noticed, it is much faster than Air 2020 that was before Arm, given the fact that i paid $1000 and now don't limit myself in gaming, productivity and video editing.
Everything has its' own place in this world and there is a reason why Win laptops exist.
