I don't know if this has been mentioned but I finally realized why Apple didn't make and can't make the fingerprint button a sleep button :(

The reason is, (in around about way):

First you press to turn the computer on.
If you hold down you force shut down.
If you hold down while starting up the computer you get recovery. (new M1s)
BUT, you make ask, "Well why can't we have if while the system is ON if I press the button the system sleeps?"

The answer is:
If you are say in Safari, and you goto purchase something, Apple Pay will pop-up and ask you to use your fingerprint.

Well unfortunately, some people might actually put their finger on the fingerprint "button", and ALSO press the fingerprint button, instead of just hovering over the "button" that would in turn SLEEP the computer, and then right in the middle of your Pay purchase "bad things" might happen, and then people would blame Apple and say it sucks etc, and "I'm not ever using that Pay again and blah blah blah"

Sucks that just because there are a few people out there that might have the inclination to press the FP button on an Pay purchase, we can't have it ALSO sleep the computer...

good night!

Why would you want a button to sleep the computer?
I just used Keyboard Maestro, and made CTRL-ESC, which when I start "terminating" again I might have to change to something else maybe CTRL-F6, for the DND button (to remember). I wanted FN-ESC but no dice... (at least in Maestro).

I just have my laptop and INSTANT WAKE type type find put back on the couch SLEEP IT, REPEAT, like short burst of 2 minute MacBook Hits ever 5-10 minutes or so... and I DON'T close the LID.
