When the iPhone 12 came out they showhorned in the Qualcomm x55 chip which was significantly bigger than what was used on the 11 which only supported up to 4g. Not only that but it ran hotter and sucked up power.
it was a pureplay spec sheet design so that apple could tell the world the year of 5g starts today, even though coverage for 5g was spotty and results were not a meaningful upgrade.
so they sacrificed something users really cared about and was a negative impact for a vapor spec sheet hype just for marketing.
this is something Steve Jobs would not have done, he would have said this sucks and not include it until it was the right time.
the iphone 13 uses the x60 chip which is a significant upgrade and worthy of inclusion.
