I like having things organized on my computer so that I can find things easier. I want my folders always sorted by name (yes I'm aware of the drop-down list), but it seems after I set it that way, after a while they scatter and rearrange themselves into no order at all. It happens repeatedly and it's getting pretty annoying. Anyone know if there is a way to fix this?
Also, this seems to happen more frequently in Documents and Pictures, but has affected every other folder I have.

What View mode are you using? When you say "I want folder sorted by name", do you mean sorted separately from files, as in Windows, or do you want everything sorted by name.
I generally use Column View, sorted by name, and my folders stay like that by default. Are you sure there is NO order when they become "scattered"?
When you say "after a while", do you mean new windows don't retain the settings, or existing windows change their order?

Who doesn't? :D
A wise man once told me that when I both save and search for a file, I should ask myself "where is the one place that this file should be?"
Of course, if that doesn't work out, there's always Spotlight. :p

I view them in icon mode sorted by name. I did what the user above you said and so far the icons haven't moved around anymore, where before they would have already scattered everywhere so it seems like it worked.
When they become scattered though, they're still in name order but they shift to the right leaving blank spaces. By "after a while" I mean the icons don't retain their position after closing the window. But like I said earlier, seems to be fixed now. Thanks guys!

I've had issues with Mountain Lion reverting folders to "sort by date last modified" after setting them to "sort by name".

Thus far I've found no rhyme or reason to it.
