I just got a 2010 Macbook Pro 15" with NVidia GeForce 330m GT with 512 mb. I installed Steam and downloaded Portal and every setting that I try it with it runs extremely choppy as I move the camera around in the game, not smooth at all. I installed Windows 7 and downloaded Steam with Portal on that and it did the same thing. Also on the WIndows side, I installed GTA San Andreas and turned all the settings up, and it runs very smooth. Let me know if you know any solutions for the Macbook Pro on the Apple side for Portal. Keep in mind that everything is up to date.

I was going to go to the Genius Bar, I don't know if they could help with this, but let me know.

Thanks

Update your computer, there was a new graphics driver released for OSX about 2 weeks ago or so. It should fix your problems. If not the new OSX version coming out in the next few weeks will also include a new graphics driver.

If your computer is already updated then your outta luck, you can thank apples poor driver support for graphics for that. Just need to wait for them to eventually update it.

If it's doing the same thing in Windows it might be a faulty graphics card. Fortunately they will replace it if it is.

Sounds like a faulty graphics card. The first Mac I ever owned was a Macbook with Intel integrated graphics. I thought the reason the pre-installed 'big bang board games' was choppy because of it. But after my geekbench score didn't match what was online and sisoft sandra (in windows) said my memory was slow, I realized I had faulty hardware. It happens. Take it back. Portal should not be choppy unless running maximum anti-aliasing in OS X.
