Why won't these clouds go away? They have been here in this location for months. I have looked in these folders online in iCloud through Safari and it doesn't look like anything under these folders is missing.

Yeah, as Robert says; The point of the cloud icon is to let you know that the file is not currently present on your machine locally, so if you’re not connected to the internet you can’t access it

But it says 'uploading' or 'waiting to upload' when I mouse hover. And I don't have optimize storage on for this machine, so all originals should be present. Weird thing is that I can see in iCloud through a web browser that the files have already uploaded.

So, I don't think you guys are correct in this case.

Hm. I do see the “Uploading” text in the screenshot. Was that there before, or did I just not look? Haha

Could you try turning off wi-fi and disconnecting any connected ethernet cables and see if the files are accessible locally without network? Just for curiosity’s sake

The files in these folders are present without internet connection. In fact, the cloud icons are only on folders, not on any files in the folders. It seems like a glitch.

The cloud looks different to the cloud icon Robert and I were talking about though; See below

Could what you're seeing be related to another cloud service like Google Drive or Dropbox or something?

"Uploading" would imply it's sending it to the Cloud from your machine.
The icon casperes1996 shows is to download from the cloud to your machine.

So, for your issue I would say that either the folder is huge and hasn't been able to upload to the cloud fully yet or there's a shortage of space on the cloud side or some other connectivity issue. Or it could be a good old fashioned bug!

This thread started in 2021, but I have the same problem on Sonoma in August of 2024. Does anyone have a definitive interpretation of the situation? Is the icon just an error that can be ignored? I get this problem intermittently. Like the OP, a folder will have the icon, but none of the files within it do.
