Why would the MacBook Air have a better screen than the Unibody-MacBook?

Didn't they both get updated to the NVIDA graphics card? If anything, I would think because the MacBook is bigger, it should be able to house a more superior screen.

The unibody MB gets a lower quality screen so that Apple can upsell people to the more expensive MBA or MBP when they realize what a bad screen they have. It's the same trick other vendors use in their lower end consumer grade stuff. They strip out some key features and put in lower quality parts so that you have to buy the more expensive models.

When you say a "lower quality screen", how is it low? Isn't it the same glass screen as the MBP? And shouldn't the MBA have the same graphics card as the MB?

The quality of the display has nothing to do with the graphics card.

It has a better display because it's priced higher and Apple can use a better display whilst maintaining the profit margin of the product.

The real issue is that the unibody MB display is not even acceptable or average. The display from any angle no matter how small, is just horrible. In addition, blacks are really a charcoal color with purple hue.

It is actually really sad just how bad the MB display is... compare them side by side in the Apple store and you will see how big the differences are between the MB and either of the other two.

Do you all know this based on empirical experiments? Or does Apple actually list the exact model of display they use, that in fact, after checking the specification, to show that they've used a lesser display on the unibody MacBook?

I have an air so I know. I just installed a new lcd screen for a friend on a macbook and compaired it to my air. It looks horrible next to my air.

Mine looks fine. Not as sharp as the MBA but perfectly fine for everyday use. It's fine for the average person too, we live in a bubble of TN vs PVA vs IPS but the majority of people just care about the size and the brightness and for that the MacBook screen is fine.

I had a 2.4ghz unibody for a few months and it was a seriously disappointing looking at the screen from any angle but dead on. If you own a unibody MB you can't deny this, not saying it's a deal breaker and yes any average user will be just fine, but the difference between the air and the macbook are seriously night and day.
