Hi, I am a new Mac User, and have noticed that airport randomly disconnects every now and then. Sometimes it has happened after waking it up from sleep, and just 5 mins. ago it disconnected while the computer was in use.

Should I be concerned? I did not have this kind of issue with my old HP. It is not such a large issue but is annoying, considering the price of this thing.

Could it be the router/have you tried another machine recently?

Some wireless routers are not compatible with Mac OS X. Post what router it is so we can further assist you. It most likely has nothing to do with the MacBook Pro.

I had the exact same issue at my mom's place. On her HP the wifi was fine, on my MBP it kept dropping every 5 - 10 mins. I tinkered around with the router a bit (DLink DI-624) and realized that when I put the Channels property from "Auto" to "1" the MBP never dropped the connection (I guess another channel might work too but I didn't bother trying). After some further investigation it appears that the HP was dropping the connection too but I guess XP auto reconnects and OS X might not or something. I'm not completely sure but that solved it for me.

So take a look at the router because you never know something might actually be wrong with it.

I used to use iChat and it would frequently d/c without my knowing and just hang there...I don't know if your airport signal goes away, or if it "says" its connected and isn't...but you might try opening a DMZ up on the port your MBP uses on your router - that is what worked for me

Thanks for the replies, I never considered it a router problem. Surprisingly, the router I have right now has lasted me for quite a time, as others I have had would quit working after a year or so.

It is a Linksys WRT54GX.

I love the linksys wrt54g series. I wish they'd upgrade them to 802.11n, so I could keep using dd-wrt. I have a wrt54g, it's about a year old now i think, with dd-wrt installed, set to channel 9, and I can use wireless doing anything with no problems on the mbp.
