Using the app "Speedtest" I only show an UPLOAD speed of 270kbs.

The download speed is about right at 9Mbs (10Mbs plan), but I wonder if the iPhone limits the Upload speed.

Has anyone else tried this app and what speeds did they get ?

ps my pc on the same system shows 470kbs/9700kbs.

ps iPhone 3gs sw 3.1

How the heck are you getting 9 meg download speed with a 10 meg service? I also have 10 meg service yet am lucky to get 3 to 7 meg downloads on my iPhone. It is weird because my laptop on my home WiFi network always gets 10 meg downloads. My iPhone is the 3G version.

I get 14.58 Mb/s down and 0.49 Mb/s up on my computer.

On my 3GS I get 2.08 Mbps down and 0.41Mbps up. So I am not finding a cap on upload. The computer was wired by the way.

I get on average about 16 megs on dwnld and 5.5 upload. (on pc) on iphone I get around 6 dwnld and 4 upload.

On my wired laptop I max out at approx. 33 Mbps down, 2.7 Mbps up, according to speedtest, on my 3gs, connected to my network which is wireless N, the phone maxes out at 14 Mbps down, but is able to keep the same 2.7 Mbps up as my wired laptop. I'd say the upload speed of the phone is clearly not artificially limited.

Okay so why do the iPhone WiFi download speeds seem to be much lower than with other WiFi devices, for most people?

Thanks everyone for replying, guess its my particular phone, but I haven't tried other iPhones on my network yet, just to be sure.

btw, My 10Mbs plan is with cable company Virgin in UK, they are fibre to the cabinet, which is quite close, guess that's how they get such a good performance

Thought it might even have been the app false reporting the speeds, but as others here have used this same app (I assume) then that's not it either,

Maybe my wifi router, Netgear WGR614 v9, (my pc is wired)

I think it has to do with that the iPhone has a much slower CPU then a laptop etc. The bus that connects to the wifi chip would also be slower.

My Macbook is getting 32.65 Mbps down and .97 Mbps up.

My iPhone 3G is getting 5.92 Mbps down and .51 Mbps up.

I have a "N" router, and my macbook is set up with an Wireless "N" card, which is really giving me the additional speed.

On my old router (G) My Macbook was getting about 9.5 Mbps Down and .59 Mbps up..

If this is true, then why does my 1st Gen PSP get faster downloads than my iPhone? And it uses a slower CPU.

I Changed my app from the Xtreme Lab's Speedtest, to Speedtest.net's app also called Speedtest (confusing or what ?) and now show 9700/445, so I guess the original app was suspect. ALTHOUGH I did test at an Apple store using the original Speedtest app and got 9500/440 ??

Funny old world ain't it ?
