Wich MacBook Pro to choose?

Hi!

Yesterday I returnded my 1.83 MBP. I still want one, just have one idea which to choose now, I don't want any more trouble. I mailed MacPolls my idea for a poll, but I don't think they will do it. So that's what my poll would look like:

What is your experience with your MacBook Pro?

whereas probs is to be understood as buzzing/whining sounds.

I really want to know if it makes any difference which CPU I order and if I take the stock version. Here on the forums you tend to hear all the bad experiences, but I am shure that the majority of all MBPs leave their owners very much happy, unlike in my case.

Maybe someone can make a poll from this and link ist here? I would host it, just my provider does not include PHP...

They all have buzzing. get over it.

its one small f'n noise. its the second core operating, if you turn that core off then it goes away.

im sorry you wasted someones chance of getting a macbook pro just because you couldnt stand the "buzzing"

No, go and take a look at the Apple Support discussion. There are at least four issues that I have seen.

1. Buzzing from the screen, especially at or near half brightness, much less so at full brightness, and not at all with the screen dark. Probably a bad inverter. People indicate successful repairs.

2. Buzzing from one or other speaker. Also repairs indicated.

3. Over or underactive fan/s (left hand one seems to be the prime suspect, which is the one next to the power input), in conjunction with failing a hardware test. Also repairs indicated

4. Buzzing from the processor. Apparently typical behavior, fixed with a widget that throws the timing off just enough to get it to quit buzzing. Probably something Apple needs to address through Software Update. No successful repairs to hardware indicated unless I am missing something -- but almost always success with the widget workaround, just so long as you remember you have to reactivate the widget after a hard reboot.

I also came across one post with a uniquely horrible high-pitched sound coming from the middle of the computer. I don't know which category that would fit into or if it is yet something else.

In any case, it sounds to me as though -- unlike with the HD Powerbook screen troubles -- Apple is being responsive on repairs. But judging by the number I should think they had a whole bad batch of components.

Well, I am not talking about a Dell laptop here. I always was willing to pay a lot more money for the better quality Apple offered.

And since I had the inverter buzz that could NOT be made "go away" by running a widget and I plan to use it for audio recording, there is no way for me to shell out that amount of money for a very much suboptimal product.

As I stated above, I am still planning to get one but i expect it to be at least comparable to my ibook in terms of noise. And if the buzzing/whining wasn't there, the MBP would be, very much so! The HD is quieter and the fan of my iBook, well, it rarely comes up, but when it does....
