Perhaps a very dumb question, is this the lens making the houses all lean on the left side of the picture and the tree on the right lean left or something I need to change when taking pics using the wide lens?

I guess review shots I've seen have cropped this kind of effect out?

Short answer is yes. Typical when tilting a wide angle lens skywards.

In bygone era, Architectural Photographers used 4x5 cameras which allowed them to place the center of the lens above the center of the film and avoid this effect. The lenses were very expensive as they had to remain sharp well beyond the area needed to cover the film. My Schneider Super Angulon 121mm lens cost me a months wages back in 1978.

Nowadays we can quickly correct this with perspective or lens correction tools in photo editing programs. A quick edit I did in my ancient version of PhotoShop Elements. I am sure there are now somewhat better tools available.

Tanagra (not really)
With wide-angles, it’s hard to push the edges of the frame without distortion. Sometimes you can do a perspective fix, but that will crop your corners. Another tip is to watch your horizon—you almost need it across the middle of the shot to keep your perspective in check.

Thanks for the edit, does a much better job than the Luminar 4 software I've got on my Mac!!
