First off sorry for such a newbie question.

I have a small collection of DVD's, Wide Screen and Full Screen at home. I want to enjoy them on the iPhone I plan on getting after my T-Mobile contract is up in about a month or so. And before I get any more DVD's I would like to know which is prefer for the iPhone viewing.

Erm... Obviously wide-screen! :p Last time I checked, the iPhone has a widecreen display...

In any case, just maintain the image-ratio when you encode your DVD's and you won't go wrong. Even FS grabs look perfectly fine on the iPhone or Touch.

I'm not positive, but doesn't it let you zoom in on widescreen videos?

Like, you double tap the video and it blows up to a sort of pan-and-scan full-screen look? If so, using widescreen videos would allow you both views.

I thought I did that in the store with a demo unit.

Yes you can zoom, but the reason you see black bars is not all WS DVD's are 16:9.
