Hey Mac Pro users,

We had to take in a nMP due to issues with failing to boot into the OS even after a restore. Long story short, it is currently at an Authorized Service Center waiting for a replacement GPU A d500 card.

Well we've been told both by Apple and the service center that there is a wait on this replacement part. According to Apple rep I spoke to, there is more demand for this replacement part than there is supply.

Have other late gen Mac Pro users with d500 GPUs experienced problems? We have two other identical machines that have yet to incur problems, but the shortage of replacement parts has me fearing this will happen again with others.

I think the limited supply is because they are going out from production, or at least ramping it down. Because I don't see that many people buying new Mac Pros at this point.

Yes, there's been a number of discussions on other threads on this, not necessarily limited to D500's, but that's probably the most popular GPU model. I suspect that a lot of people were experiencing GPU problems that they attributed to Yosemite, but once a number of users who had their GPUs replaced started posting on forums that the replacement units had no further problems, it likely caused a lot more owners to take their nMPs in for service.
