They aren’t the same layout in landscape or portrait…

So if you have widgets, apps, and folders it’s just a mess. And oh god, the grid view in portrait on iPad is atrocious.

I remember the layout being identical in both orientation on iPadOS 14. This is bad. I feel like Apple is going to completely change this again in the next version. I feel like they didn’t want this but needed to catch up to iOS 14

Have you seen photos, I can't find any showing them in portrait view.

The only issue I have found on an ipad air 2 so far in this regard is when you go to rearrange the widget order on the left, the alignment of where you are holding the widget to the trigger points are way off. But it is b1, so there was bound to be a plethora of issues.

the why come and bitch and moan about it?
Because Apple actually does something about it when there’s enough people to bitch and moan about it. Not everyone likes to be spoon fed by Apple with everything you know, whether it’s good or bad.

and calm down dude, I did not mean to offend you with Apple’s mess. It has nothing to do with you personally

I prefer how it work on iOS 14 With the permanent clock at the top right. What’s the point to place widget everywhere I want if I cant places app icons everywhere I want? Its a total mess like you said and it ruin my wallpaper at a point I just remove all of this and just place my most used apps on the dock. With the App Library, its all I need now.

I ended up putting all my widgets on a second page. The lack of consistency in the layout bugged me too much.

I'm curious, if you had a choice.. would you rather it stay as iPadOS 14 layout with no movement of widgets or how its currently implemented?

IMO... with all the annoyance it's taking to move widgets in a certain spot, I prefer how it is currently implemented than not being able to move freely across the entire screen.

I don’t care at this point, I tried using widgets on iPadOS and it was a mess. So I’m just not going to use widgets on the Home Screen at all.

Not liking how the grid looks in portrait tho, but at least it’s a little more consistent with my layout

I hope you have submitted feedback to them as well, because it's far more likely that they will act on it there than by complaining about it here.

Its interesting because if you look at Widgets on 14 vs 15 then 14 looks more coherent and aesthetically pleasing.
- Large Clock
- Far more widgets (scroll widget bar for infinite widgets)
- Icons are spaced much closer (Large gaps look sloppy and wasteful)
- Less screen waste

I get it. The benefit of the iPadOS15 Widgets is placement. You can align it to the grid so it feels more personal. But if that personal customization gets destroyed because "you're holding it wrong" then in the end then this may end up being a downgrade.

Again, no judgement since it's not a finished update. But so far then I'm really hoping we get an OPTION for "classic mode" so I can stick to the current widget layout.

There’s literally nothing they can do about it. And if you’ve been keeping up, I don’t care about it anymore and stopped using the feature. Just sharing my opinion

All they need to do is have a toggle to allow the iOS 14 method of a side bar. Like now how you can toggle large icons or small icons.

I say this full well knowing they won’t do something that simple or easy. Hell I thought they’d actually do a weather app on iPad……or maybe a calculator widget or something. It’s pretty pathetic.

And I agree with the OP , Apple rarely changes major functionality during betas. They barely fix reported bugs. As usual we will get a mostly stable iOS 15 by spring 2022. Rinse and repeat.

At least this year they are gonna stop forcing the update on people.

I asked in another thread whether it was still possible to have widgets as a slide out from the home screen like iPadOS 13/14 and was told that this was still possible. Is that not the case?

I have never found the side car approach useful. I can’t wait to place widgets where I will actually use them.

Most of my widget are notifications or “important but rarely used”. Reminders list, News feed, Screentime Stats, Home lighting etc aren’t things I want always on display, but I appreciate that they’re just a swipe away.

The new placeable widgets are nice but they still align orderly on the grid and the portrait/landscape movement means that they are moving targets. So (for me) I prefer having Them in that desktop widget drawer.
