So far I'm loving iPadOS and iOS14. While still buggy, i think its a good update in general and i was pleasantly suppressed when i learned that widgets wont be limited to just apple first party ones as 3rd party ones are slowly coming online every day.

That said, the one thing that just urkes the hell out of me (and im wondering if it does to you all too is)...WHY THE HELL ARE THE WIDGETS LOCKED ON ONE SIDE OF THE IPAD OS?

This makes absolutely no sense to me in the slightest. Its a much bigger screen, i should be able to use those widgets where i want like i can on the phone!

In fact it makes way more sense for me to do that on the Ipad then it does on the Iphone. You only have so much screen real estate on the phone where even on the smallest ipad (mini) you got way more space...so why are they locked to just one place and do you think apple will change that eventually?

Its just weird!

What are your thoughts?

I completely agree. As noted in another thread, I upgraded my Mini 2 to a Mini 5 this weekend and went up several operating system features in the process was was BAFFLED that widgets are so much more limited on the iPad OS.

It seems to me that the initial focus was to develop the base functionality into iOS first and then refine the iPad experience later. I have no issue with that, hopefully eventually things will improve.

Right now I’m not thrilled with the implementation on iPad either, particularly how Apple widgets cant be intermixed with 3rd party widgets. Perhaps I’m doing something wrong. I’d like to have a battery widget displayed below a couple of 3rd party ones but I can’t seem to be able to move the battery widget down into the space that I want.

Nobody knows what Appel thinks when developing those stuff. PR bs is untrustworthy either. But for me, I’d imagine allowing widget on iPadOS function somewhat similar to iOS would not look too nice and won’t really transfer to so-called “consistent experience”.

If iPadOS widget can be move around, maybe we can start to expect moving windows, menu bar and such, just like in macOS.

It sucks that iOS got all of the good stuff. The iPad really only got Scribble and improved Spotlight Search. :(

I also think iPadOS should have the same on screen widgets and app library.
It’s okay when in landscape mode, but in portrait mode, the iPad screen is just like the iPhone screen arrangement, thus needs the capability to be able to add widgets on screen.

Maybe if many of us rants on forums like this they will listen and give us the update.
