hey new here just got my new imac desktop it looks aweosome and everything but i am having a wierd program. i start up the computer and all is fine it is really cool how you dont see the black screen or anything it is all smooth looking with the setup boxes but when it gets to where you should have the normal desktop this wierd program comes up instead. i cant see the start button or my computer or anything it is like some kind of other program on top of it that i cant quit. i have tried everything but when i click shut down it just shuts down the whole computer not getting me to my desktop. any ideas?

In Mac OS X there is no Start button only the Dock and the Menu Bar.
Does your Desktop look like this without those many icons on the right?
You can also quit a program by pressing Cmd+Q or going into the menu bar, where the name of the program is bold (right from the Apple) and chose Quit.
Except Finder can't be normally quit, as it is the file explorer and management program.

yeah i did that already it is after it is done and it looks like it is going to desktop but instead it loads something else. there is a wierd looking bar on the bottom with icons instead of them being on the desktop and a menu on the top but there is no quit option. i cant see the start button or any normal programs.
The very, very first thing you're supposed to see when you start up your Mac for the first time is a picture of the finder. You computer should look almost exactly like this:

If it is this what you see at the bottom, it's the Dock, the application launcher and bar where open applications' icons reside.

On the top the bar is called the Menu Bar, and if the active program is Finder, you can't quit it (except when you enable it via a 3rd party software).
PS: Why did you get a Mac, when you didn't research it first and how it behaves and looks like?

The Menu Bar is always there, except with full screen applications like games.
Also the Dock can be hidden (and automatically reappearing) by pressing Cmd+Option/Alt+D.
That IS the normal computer system. Watch the videos on Apple's website, they'll help explain it better. They have even have videos for people who have switched from PC-to-Mac.
Sorry, but somehow that feels like trolling. Just a feeling, not an accusation due to my ignorance of you.
It may feel rude to you, but spending so much money on a computer without knowing what is on it (Mac OS X or Windows), is kinda ignorant in my eyes at least.
I mean, when you bought the iMac you would have seen, that there is something entirely different on it than Windows, wouldn't you?
Unless you bought it online maybe, but still.
It's 1000-2000$, you could have saved some if you just wanted to play games, if you'd bought a PC or build it yourself.
So, that is the end of my stupid rant/unbelievability over this.

). It is a LOT different to Windows, but IMO a lot better. There are no viruses etc, so you can feel safer browsing the web. It is a LOT faster and doesn't go slower over time. Most of your games PROBABLY won't work on it, some will though, all Blizzard games do, some EA ones etc. But if you need any help we can help you.

And if you have games that only run on Windows (most games do), you can even install Windows with the Boot Camp software, but that is another thread maybe.
Enjoy the new Mac nonetheless, even if it might feel strange the first days/weeks.
Just one thing bothers, didn't the salesman tell you anything about this machine, and how did you come to notice that it is Mac OS X in the end and ended up here asking your questions? Just curiosity, and I have plenty of cats left, so don't worry.
I wondered about this as well -- did you purchase this computer from someplace like an Apple Retail Store? Or someplace else that just happens to sell Macs?
