Hey folks,

I've been having this issue with my macbook pro lately, and I've got no idea whats causing it, or if I'm able to fix it myself somehow.

Model: Macbook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015)
Processor: 2,9GHz Intel core i5
Graphics: Intel iris graphics 6100 1536MB
OS: macOS Sierra 10.12.1
Purchase date: Early September 2015.

Sometimes (not every time), when I open up my MBP, the screen looks as the first image below. After a few seconds (2-5 seconds) it returns to its normal state, as shown in the second image.

I've already tried searching for a case with a similar problem with no success. Tried resetting NVRAM, and running apples hardware diagnostic. Still nothing to go on.

It has also not been "mistreated". Its the only thing I carry in my backpack (inside the laptop compartment) and hasn't received any shocks or pressure.

Only option I have yet to try is formatting the harddrive and re-installing the OS. But I'd obviously prefer to it not coming to that, especially if it doesn't fix the problem. However if someone thinks it will solve the issue for some reason, I'll of course try it :)

Any and all help is appreciated! :)

I can confirm this behavior. It's happening on my brand new MBP 2016 with Radeon 460 (at least after rebooting). The effect is not as noticeably as seen on your photo but it's there.

Probably a software thing?

Re-install os

Thanks for the reply, but can you explain why this would fix the issue? As I said in the original post, I'd rather not re-install the OS unless I'm sure it fixes the issue :)

hmm....
Try System Preferences.
Accessibility pane.
Click on Display, then check that Display Contrast is completely to the left, at the Normal setting.

Return this device and get a new one.
Do you know if its an issue recognized by Apple and is covered by some warranty or something?

I checked, and its still at the normal setting - completely to the left.

Anyone have any further suggestions? :)

What is the result when you run the built-in Diagnostics test?

As you don't see that strange video effect all the time, run it as soon as you can when you next see the effect ....

I've had this issue twice on my 13" non-TB, but it's been a few weeks since. I'm not using FileVault, and I passed the Diagnostic Test fine.

It doesn't happen too often, so I'm usually not prepared when it does happen, but now I managed to run the diagnostics test as soon as I could after it happened. The results said that nothing was wrong. Back to square one :(

Same issue that is plaguing many 2016 Macbook Pro owners although if you are only having issues at login then you might find it's related to FileVault? This has been known to happen if you have FileFault turned on.

Big thread about it HERE and my videos of it below.

Since you seem to be exhibiting the same graphical anomalies on an older model this, hopfefully, adds evidence that it is software related not hardware. It's definitely worth reporting to Apple anyway.

Next time it happens, go to system preferences->Display->Color Profile tab and I bet the instant you click on the colour profile tab it will fix itself?

I'll definitely try that, and I bet you're right. Taking a look at those videos though makes me thankful that it only takes about 5-10 seconds for it to fix itself.
I also have windows 10 installed (requirement for a program at uni), and this issue has never happened while booting up windows, which would further suggest that its a software problem. I guess there isn't much to do, but report it to Apple and hope they fix it soon?

Thinking back, I can't remember it happening before upgrading to osSierra, but I'm not 100% sure of this.

I have the same macbook pro as you OP, with the same configuration and I do not have this problem on Sierra :S. On El Capitan I did not have it either. I also game often(League of Legends, SMITE) but this never happened. macOS Sierra did introduce new graphic drivers if I remember correctly, maybe the graphic driver during sierra upgrade is not installed correctly of something :\. It is strange that this issue does not affect everyone, since I have exactly the same macbook pro as you but I do not have this graphic issue.
