Wife fell with iphone, screen broke :/

Well, I've read all the stories where people have accidentally or stupidly broken their iphones and that Apple has been replacing them. Well, seems not anymore. My wife tripped and fell crossing the street (she's ok thank goodness) while holding the phone... when she looked at it, the glass was shattered! The phone was in the incase case (the rubber one) but it made no difference. So after reading all the threads here, like the recliner chair vs the iphone, where those all got replaced for free by apple, I figured maybe they would do the same for me? Well no such luck. I didn't expect they should just replace it although I was hoping. $249 to fix it (flat fee for 8GB and $199 for 4GB). He was nice enough to waive the $29 'loaner' phone though.

Point is, either Apple does not like me and my wife (went to 2 stores BTW, first one had no loaners) or they are changing the 'here have a new phone' policy. Good thing AMEX will pay for this.

Try a few different places and see if they're willing to help you out.
Dont tell them you fell, just say something like you barelly dropped it a few feet from your hands to the ground and it broke very easy etc....
See if you can bs your way around it and say it broke very easy where previous cellphones that you dropped 100 times didnt have any probs

Who cares if the iPhone broke! That is replaceable/repairable and nothing compared to your wife being hurt. Glad she is okay!

Yeah i would try a few calls and a trip or 5 to the apple store hoping to get someone on the line or in person who would wave the magic free iphone replacement wand. I wouldn't give up just yet.

Meh, my time is worth more than that... I can't be arsed really. In all honesty, she did break it, it isnt a defect. I'm happy to pay for it to be replaced, but in this case American Express buyer assurance program is footing the bill so in the end it all will work out.

The point of this thread was/is to let ya'll know that Apple isn't just giving replacements away anymore - at least this is now my experience and I am in (dare I say) perhaps the largest iphone marked in the country, Los Angeles. The only really important thing here is that my wife is A-OK

To the other person saying he would call Allstate, again how does that work? I've never understood this, I guess cos I've never lived on my own. My parents always told me it wasn't worth insuring things other than cars and houses because if it broke and the insurance paid to fix it (like a laptop for example), the amount of insurance fees you would have to pay the next year would be higher than the cost to have had it fixed. Is that true? Or were they lying to me? Believe me, it's very possible they were.

American Express, and I'm sure other credit card companies, offers a buyers protection service free of charge provided you purchase the item with the AMEX. If it is lost, stolen, broken etc (there are some exclusions) they will either replace it or fix it. Amex covers new items for 90 days. All I did was call them, they emailed my paperwork to fill out, then I faxed it back to them. They should have my reimbursement within 2 weeks or so.

Good luck with allstate, your better off to call state farm and get it its own policy for around 30-60 with no deductible. I just left allsate completely because they gave me a huge run around about the phone, plus I am saving 500 a year by switching.

When you get a credit card, you usually have to pay a fixed annual fee. To entice people to join up, they often offer insurance and buyer protection at no extra cost. My VISA card gives me things like free travel insurance worth up to a couple of million dollars, etc. Although to be entitled to these types of credit cards you often have to be earning a certain level of salary every year. And in my country you have to be at least 18 years old to get a credit card.

Sounds like the screen was exposed. I have the Case Mate flip case and have dropped my iPhone I few times. It survived all the falls
