When she is shopping on line the page [after a short time] the window will close leaving a black screen with a searching circle and it goes back to her home page.

Close browser and restart.
Try different browser.
See if that site has an app.
Restart IPad.

Sounds like a crash/respring (possibly due to running out of memory).

What iPad model does she have and what version of iOS is it running? Also, are there any apps in the background and are there many tabs open in Safari?

Sounds like an issue that plagued my iPad Pro when it was on iPadOS 13.2.
