Wife & I have 3 iCloud Accounts - Family Sharing Questions/Help

Currently the wife and I have 3 accounts. It goes like this:

I have **97@gmail.com under settings/iCloud (my iCloud photos, notes, etc.) $100 or less in purchases.

The wife/I share **SK2010@gmail.com (iTunes store, music, apps, books etc.) $1k plus in purchases.

The wife has kate.08@gmail.com under settings/iCloud (her iCloud photos, notes, etc.) $100 or less in purchases.


I'd like to get things straitened out as far as iTunes, iCloud goes before I setup our house with a Mac Mini as the central hub that our phones sync to. The wife currently uses her iMac mostly for business, and I have a Macbook Pro for personal/her biz. I currently have one large music & media collection on our Synology NAS. Her iMac has it's own library file, as does my Macbook Pro. Which has become a pain.

So anyway, LoL. How can I use family sharing with the above accounts? I have a feeling one of us will have to drop our personal apple ID to become the family administrator (probably me LoL)? I'm guessing I'll have to take over SK2010@gmail.com?

I don't want any of our Apple services to get mixed up going further, unless of course they are meant to be (shared photos etc.). Any/all help is appreciated. I know that Apple locks different apple ID's on same device for 90 days, and family sharing to different families 2 times a year.

There shouldn't really be much to it. You can continue using the **97@gmail.com account for yourself. If the SK2010 account is in the same Family, then you can access all of its prior purchases from either your or your wife's account. The Organizer account doesn't have to be the one with the biggest purchase history.

If you end up sharing a Mac Mini, you'd want to create two user accounts on the Mac, and associate each one with the appropriate account (you and your wife, not the SK2010). Then you'd each retain your personal iCloud photos, notes, reminders, etc.

Regarding the iTunes library, why not put the library file on the NAS with the media, and point each of the various computers to that library file? I assume you don't want separate libraries since you say it has become a pain.

The library file can become corrupt with two computers accessing it at the same time.

Apple states the iTunes user account has to match the iCloud user ID. So I'm not sure what your saying?

Ahh, that definitely could be the case. When I used to store my library file on my server I only accessed from one machine at a time.

Right, and it would in the scenario I'm describing. Say you end up sharing a Mac Mini...

Local user account 1 = you = your personal iCloud account = you logged into iTunes with that iCloud account
Local user account 2 = your wife = her personal iCloud account = her logged into iTunes with that iCloud account

If either of you want to download your prior purchases from your SK2010 account, you can go into your purchase history, where all Family members will be listed. Choose SK2010 there, and download.

If you want to continue making purchases on the SK2010 account for some reason, then you'd have to make a third account on the Mac for that one. But there's not really a reason to do that any longer, unless you have a bunch of store credit on that account (Family purchases always use up the individual's store credit first, then go to the Family credit card - it never spends another Family member's store credit).
