or should I wait till June/Next Iphone?
she is currently on a Blackberry Bold, but is hating it...
she is not a techie so I think that GS with OS 4.0 (when it comes out) will hold her over, HOWEVER, what if the next iphone is da bomb?

what would you do?

I'd get her whatever she wants, especially if she is a working wife. Cell phone's are such a personal item and it all really depends if that is what she wants.

Plus brownie points never hurt.

I got my wife the 3G but honestly she is just starting to text. Her average calls for the month were less than 35minutes a month...so she is geeked just to have any type of iPhone.

Do not expect it to be iPhone to be da bomb. It will be more of the same with minor updates.

Lets look at the devices

iPod classic from 1G to Current and look how it changed from each generation to the next.
It would get Size increase over time (hardware updates)
It got a color screen -- Hardware update with the times
Biggest change to the basic iPod was going to the click wheel.

Nano- started out being just a small iPhone
Biggest change was going over to flash base memory.

Of all the iPods the shuffle has change the most in-between generations.

Look at the iPhone 1.0 to 3GS.
The phone itself has had minor updates with hardware for the most part. (OS has mostly been updates adding in lacking features to keep up with the times and keep ahead of the curve)

If you noticed a pattern here iPhone 4.0 will most likely be hardware updates to keep up with the times. OS updates will be mostly just there to keep up with the times. Nothing game changing.

thanx everyone, i think i'm gonna go out and pull the trigger on it this weekend....

The OS of the blackberry is a real PITA, not to mention that she constantly has to press a combo of buttons to unlock the friggin' thing after taking it out of her purse....

Agreed. Make the decision based on what she wants, not what you want to get her.

Mines happy with the 3G. For someone thats not too techy the 3G is fine, its a little slower than the 3GS, but thats not a deal breaker. Video recording and a compass may be important to some people, but not so much here.

You could play the waiting game forever since there will always be something better coming out in the future.
