My wifes' 2007 iMac WIFI 802.11n won't stay connected. My 2014 iMac 802.11 a/c is in the same room about 2 feet farther away from the modem and I get 30-35 Mbps download to her 2.5Mbps. She is about 60 feet from the modem. We connect to 5G network.
Do we upgrade her card or do we buy a booster or ...???

I would temporarily move the 'problem' unit, place it in immediate proximity to the WiFi radio broadcast source and see if there is any difference in bandwidth and reception. Then go from there.

Okay, now back in its usual location, maybe the orientation will have positive or negative consequence to bandwidth and signal strength?

If running a CAT wire could be an option, you might give some thought to placing an Airport Express closer to your unit?

I picked one up (refurbished) and put it on the other side of the house from the TimeCapsule to provide good WiFi saturation.
