It seems impossible to find an application for my iPhone that can measure the speed and coverage of the WiFi I'm currently connected to.

On Andriod, there's WiFi Analyzer. Is there any similar app for iOS?

"WiFi Analyzer and other wifi scanner apps for the iPhone were removed from the App Store in March, 2010 due to the use of private frameworks. Private frameworks are libraries that cannot be used by third-party developers, as clearly stated in Apple's Developer Agreement. Unfortunately, some system resources can only be accessed using these frameworks, and the wifi card in the iPhone is one of them."

P.S.: You have a similar app only for Mac.

There's a similar limitation on accessing detailed GPS information. Coming from Android, this was one of those aspects of iOS I found irritating and why I have kept my Android devices (in addition to my Air 2).

This is one of the reasons I miss my old jailbreak.

If there's any correlation between ping times and signal strength you could use an app like "Fing" for pinging.

Look up "iperf" for measuring transfer speeds.

Here are examples of a good info apps available on Android that I'd like to see on iOS -

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer&hl=en (Network info)

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androits.gps.test.pro&hl=en (GPS info)

Apple's Airport Utility may give you enough information. You don't need an Airport, just ignore the "no base stations" message and tap WiFi Scan.

It's a common misconception that there is nothing available for WiFi testing on iOS. If you look hard enough you can find apps. Have a look at Wi-Fi Sweetspots and TamoSoft.

That's not the case on the iOS App unfortunately...

Thanks! WiFi Sweetspots looks promising!

Using the macOS app for a few years. Great tool!

Cheers

Yes, and you also have iStumbler which is a great application.
However, there's a difference carrying a 15" computer and an iPhone, looking for best signal strength... ;)

This is one tiny regret I have switching to Apple devices, not having a proper wifi Analizing apps.

My suggestion and this what I will do if I need to, is get a cheap used android device around $100, so I can have apps that are not available in Apple Store.

Apple's Airport Utility DOES work for wifi scanning / analyzing on the iPhone, at least in iOS 11—can anyone else confirm 10, 9?

To turn on wifi scanning in Airport Utility:
  1. Go to: iPhone Settings > Airport Utility settings
  2. Toggle Wi-Fi Scanner
  3. Open Airport Utility
  4. New Wi-Fi Scan option now appears
