WiFi connection shows as LTE sometimes when launching certain apps

Hi guys,

I noticed a strange behavior that sometimes occurs for some apps (smart home apps like the Home app, the Eve app and the Hue app). Sometimes when I launch these apps the WiFi icon immediately changes to LTE. When I quit the app, it changes back to the WiFi icon. The strange thing: Even when it shows LTE the control center says I'm connected to my WiFi. Also this issue only showed up with these 3 smart home apps mentioned above so far.

Anyone knows what's causing this strange behavior?

EDIT: Just checked a few more apps and while it doesn't happen with all apps and also not all the time with affected apps, I now also had this once with my mail app (Spark) so it doesn't seem to be smart home specific. I adjusted the title.

I noticed the same behavior on my phone. Happens randomly, some days not at all, other days many times a day. No idea why.

Yup, I have. But most of the time it just switches to LTE when I'm launching an app which I find a bit strange.

Try disabling that at least to see if it makes a difference.

Do you perhaps have WiFi Assist enabled in your cellular settings?

This would be my guess

Have you disabled that new Local Network option? I wish by default it was OFF and have a master switch to turn off.

A weak wifi will hop back and forth.
Turn off cellular.
Turn on Airplane mode then turn wifi on - from Settings

Some apps seem to call phone to verify?
